Nadeau Corporation designed and constructed a new Visitor Contact Station (VCS) at the Parker River National Wild life Refuge in Newburyport, Mass. with design build partner Vision 3 architects. The new 1,600 s.f. Visitor Welcome Center serves as the first stop, and first impression, for arriving visitors, and is designed as a
signature facility for U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. The goal was to create a warm and inviting facility for the visiting public as well as for staff and volunteers. The design incorporates several sustainable design features, including a solar hot water system for radiant floor heating and photo voltaic system to provide electricity.
About the Client
Located along the northeast coast of Massachusetts, Parker River National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1941 to provide feeding, resting, and nesting habitat for migratory birds. In addition to its mission of wildlife conservation, the refuge provides a variety of excellent wildlife-dependent recreational activities, including surf fishing, wildlife observation and photography.
